Future Forum Organization
We need to figure out how we can organize our new forum, so that it doesn't end up messy like the last one.
Here's what I think.
I. Global Stickies
A. Forum Rules
B. FAQ (FAQ & links to current concept threads)
C. Forum History (Links to old forum, spore page, ModDb page, G4 page)
D. Hot topics
II. Editors*
-A. Organism
-B. Tech
-C. Planet
-D. Solar System
* Each Editor section shall have a current concept thread, and an ideas thread by default. If a big idea is thought up, it can be expressed as its own thread
II. Gameplay
-A. Gameplay Modes**
--1. Organism
--2. Strategy
--3. God
--4. Observer
** Each Mode Section will contain a current concept thread and an ideas thread
-B. Gameplay through stages
--1-X. However many "stages" we have decided to contain. Each "stage" will have a section and a current concept thread.
-C. Evolution
--1. Organism Evolution
--2. Tech Evolution
--3. Planetary Evolution
-D. Environments
-E. Npcs
III. Game Extras
-A. Achievements
-B. Easter Eggs
-C. Other
IV. Extra Game Ideas
-A. Extra Game Ideas
V. Outreach
-A. Legal
-B. Marketing
-C. Building the Development Team
-D. Other ways to reach out
VI. Technical/Conceptual Work
-A. Programming
--1. Language
--2. Engines
---a. Physics
---b. Graphics
--3. Coding Information
--4. Procedurals
---a. Modeling
---b. Animation
---c. Skinning
---d. AI
--5. Auto-Evo
-B. Prototypes
-C. Concept Art/ Models
VII.Other
-A. Welcome/ General Questions
-B. Misc.
--1. Sticky to remind people not to spam or make games.
It's a bit complex, but much better than what we have now. Anything I have missed, Please tell me and I'll add it. Bottom line is we need a lot of organization, so that it is easy to find what we need to find.

Re: Future Forum Organization
It looks good except for the fact that there is nowhere for the concepts. We need a place for things that have been agreed upon. Like the Master Threads, but better worked. Also, i don't believe there needs to be an ideas thread for each Mode, but rather have people make their own threads with ideas and once they are agreed upon they be moved into the current concept.
But i think that there needs to be three stages of confirmation for ideas. My proposal is simply that we have a section for Ideas, a section for Concepts, a section for Technical, a section for Marketing&Legal and a section for Miscellaneous.
Basically, new ideas are placed in the Ideas Section. If a poll has been run for a month and the option 'yes' has the majority, then a wrap up thread will be composed and placed into the Concepts Section. If the majority of votes here is yes then the thread will be stickied and will have [AP] placed in the title. Any EM can demand a confirmed thread to be re-voted on, if they have public backing. In the Concepts Section only EMs will be able to post new threads, but anyone can post in the threads.

Ideas
Section IV is for ideas and will be handled in that way. I've tried to keep everything else pretty general so it will be easy to change things around.

Re: Future Forum Organization
Okay, i think i get it.
I still think for the sake of cleanliness it would be better to place all of the Ideas Sections (II - IV) into one Ideas Section, and then have a duplicate and locked-to-all-but-green-names Concepts Section.

Re: Future Forum Organization
That works- that way only Mods can make things official.

Re: Future Forum Organization
Exactly. No more blur between accepted and not! And most importantly: the less confusion, the more production.
Re: Future Forum Organization
Well, the current 30-day poll would still have to be used in the process of establishing an idea.
